For kitchens, choose a wet chemical extinguisher (Class F, called K class by Kanex). It reacts with hot oil, cools it and forms a foam layer or soap-like crust on top so it does not flare up again. Ceasefire offers 3, 6 and 9 ltr units (8A, 40F on the EN model at 3 ltr, 2A, 25F on the BIS models), Kanex a stainless steel unit in 2, 3, 6 and 9 L rated 15F, Minimax a potassium based unit in 1 to 9 litre steel cylinders, and Savemax a stainless steel unit in 2, 4 and 6 L.
For burning metals, use a Class D extinguisher with a powder that suits the metal. Ceasefire SPM Tec (sodium, potassium and barium chlorides) is for light metals such as magnesium, lithium, sodium and potassium, and SPM Pyro for heavy metals such as titanium, lead, zinc and copper, both in 4, 6 and 9 kg. Kanex offers sodium chloride or TEC powder in 4, 6 and 9 kg with a hose and applicator, and Minimax a 10 kg TEC powder gas cartridge unit with a lance-like nozzle that applies the powder gently without splashing the metal.
For fuel, paint, welding and gas risks, special BC powders are an option. Kanex Monnex (potassium bicarbonate urea complex) comes as stored pressure in 1 to 6 kg, rated 55B in the smallest size, or cartridge operated in 4, 6 and 9 kg, rated 183B in the smallest size. Ceasefire B Plus powder breaks into fine particles to cover a larger surface, from 1 kg to 9 kg with the 1 kg rated 34B, and in an EN approved version with the 2 kg rated 89B.
Where one unit must cover mixed risks, the Ceasefire MultiMax uses CF Green agent listed for Class A, B, C, F, electrical and lithium battery fires, in 1 and 2 ltr home and car sizes and 3, 6 and 9 ltr portables, with the 3 ltr rated 2A, 55B, 25F. For large, high intensity fires, the MultiMax High Impact range adds a 9 ltr backpack rated 27A, 183B and a 45 ltr trolley using compressed air foam. For small fires caught early, Balaji Fire Safety offers a 500 ml (0.5 kg) foam spray can rated 1 A, with ISI, ISO, BIS and CE listed, and a 100 g aerosol device in a plastic body rated 1A for Class A fires, listed for an operating temperature of 0 to 50 C.
