Choose the agent by what the room holds. ABC powder (MAP 50 or MAP 90) covers Class A, B and C fires in stores, factories, high stacks and engine compartments, but leaves powder to clean up. Clean agent units (FK-5-1-12 fluoroketone, FE-36, HFC 236fa or HFC 227ea) leave no residue, so they suit electrical panels, server rooms, computer rooms and other areas with electronic equipment.
Then choose ceiling or wall mounting. Ceiling modules hang above the risk and use no floor space: Kanex offers 2, 5, 10 and 15 kg (FK-5-1-12 in 2, 5 and 10 kg), Minimax ABC powder in 5 and 10 kg and Grenoz 1230 in 5, 6, 10 and 12 kg, Savemax 5 and 10 Kg with ABC powder or clean agent, Balaji Fire Safety ABC powder in 5 kg and 10 kg with a mild steel body, and Ceasefire 5 and 10 kg plus M Series units in 2, 5, 10 and 15 kg. Ceasefire wall mounted units (1 kg to 9 kg) sit on a bracket, with an optional flexible bracket to aim them at a panel, engine or machine.
Check how each unit triggers and what it covers. Ceasefire and Minimax units use a bulb that bursts at about 68 C, with other temperatures on request from Minimax, Balaji Fire Safety lists 68 C activation on its 5 kg unit, and Kanex lists sensing bulbs from 57 degrees C to 107 degrees C; Savemax units discharge once the heat passes a set threshold. Minimax lists a coverage of 3 m x 3 m per unit, Kanex a discharge of about 4 to 5 seconds, and Balaji Fire Safety a discharge of 6 to 8 sec on the 5 kg unit and 15 to 20 sec on the 10 kg unit; FPS works out the number of modules for your room.
If the module must report to a fire alarm panel or BMS, the Ceasefire M Series has a pressure port for a pressure switch and a Metron electrical actuation option that links units into a detector controlled total flooding system. The Ceasefire Launcher, a MAP 90 unit in 4, 6 and 9 kg, can be used by hand, thrown towards a large fire, or left to act on its own with two heat sensors and a 360 degree discharge.
