For a first aid hose reel, first choose the standard and the reel type. IS 884 is the BIS specification for first aid hose reels: the Savemax ISI type reel conforms to it, and Savemax notes this type is mandatory in most government and CPWD specified projects, while New Age's swing type reel and the Minimax swinging Type A drum are designed to IS 884 (Minimax notes its drum carries no BIS marking). Swinging reels turn through 180 degrees so the hose can be pulled out in any direction. Kartar Valves, New Age, Savemax and Aaag also offer Malaysian type, compact, fixed, stand mounted and heavy duty reels, and Aaag's automatic swing reel opens its valve as the reel turns.
Then match the hose and the risk. Savemax reels use 25 mm semi-rigid hose with a reel capacity of typically 30 m, Kartar Valves and Minimax fit 20 mm hose in rubber to IS 444 or thermoplastic to IS 12585 (Kartar in 30, 36 or 40 m), Balaji Fire Safety sells 20 mm and 25 mm drum sets with 30 m of hose, and Aaag's heavy duty reel holds up to 50 m. Minimax lists a jet range of at least 6.0 m at an inlet pressure of at least 7.0 bar, and New Age rates its reels at 12 bar. For flammable liquids, New Age and Aaag offer hose reel foam stations with their own foam tank, and where fires may involve electrical equipment, Ceasefire's CF 2000 watermist hose reel makes droplets under 40 microns and is stated by Ceasefire to be non conductive up to 35 kV.
For hose boxes, match the door layout to what the box must hold. A single door box holds one hose with its branch pipe and landing valve accessories, and Kartar Valves offers it for 15 m (K918 S1) or 30 m (K918 S2) hose. A double door box holds two 15 m hoses with a branch pipe or nozzles, as in the 750 x 600 x 250 mm boxes from Minimax, Aaag and Balaji Fire Safety, and the Savemax double door box fits a landing valve assembly with a hose reel or RRL hose in one enclosure. New Age also makes hose reel cabinets, custom recessed cabinets and dry riser inlet cabinets.
Then choose the material and sheet thickness. Most boxes here are mild steel or CRCA steel with a red powder coat: Aaag uses 18 SWG CRCA sheet, Minimax CR sheet of 18, 16 or 14 SWG, and Savemax 18 SWG for general installations or heavier 16 SWG for basements, parking areas and industrial floors. FRP boxes come from Kartar Valves, New Age, Minimax, Aaag and Balaji Fire Safety, Aaag also makes a polypropylene box with an acrylic front that can be broken in an emergency, and Savemax's stainless steel boxes suit food processing, pharmaceutical and hospitality sites. Savemax lists its boxes as compatible with NBC and TAC hose cabinet specifications.
