First decide between signs that glow and signs that are lit. Photoluminescent and glow signs need no wiring: they absorb surrounding light and glow when the lights go out. Ceasefire SEE wall signs are 2 mm rigid plastic, and SEE floor and stair strips are 0.3 mm self adhesive, non slip polycarbonate that stays visible when smoke hides signs higher up. The Ceasefire Excellence series puts a 2 mm photoluminescent cover in an aluminium frame, with acrylic glass and brushed stainless steel variants, for lobbies and other front of house areas. Ceasefire lists charging from surrounding light of only 25 lux and a glowing time of 3100 minutes, with a luminance of 215 mcd/sq m for the Excellence series. Balaji Fire Safety offers a wall mounted Assembly Point sign in foam board with a radium glow finish, to mark where people gather after evacuation.
LED exit signs and emergency lights run on mains power and switch to a battery when it fails. Ravel LumiCzar exit signs use a 2 W LED with Ni-MH battery backup of at least 90 minutes, in a sheet metal housing (LZR-XSM01, viewing distance of at least 20 m) or an aluminium housing with universal mounting (LZR-XSM02, at least 22 m). The LumiCzar Bluetooth exit sign gives at least 3 hours of backup and reports its health to an Android app, and the LumiCzar Basic emergency light gives 270 lumens from 4 W with at least 1.5 hours of backup. For larger buildings, the Ravel Eliprobe Archon controller links emergency luminaires on an RS485 Modbus RTU network for central health checks, remote on, off and dimming, and up to 1 year of stored test reports. Ravel lists IEC/EN 60598-2-22 among the standards for its LumiCzar range.
For people, the Ceasefire Fire Escape Gear Box is a mild steel box holding two fire escape masks and two fire blankets. The smoke hood is tested to EN 403:1993, gives breathable air for 15 minutes and is single use, and the blankets measure 1.2 m x 1.8 m. Keep a box near the exits of hotels, hostels, hospitals and upper office floors. Ceasefire also lists fire suits in its safety gear range but publishes no specifications, so FPS confirms the options against your requirement before quoting.
