ABC dry powder is a multi purpose agent for fires in ordinary solids (class A), flammable liquids (class B) and gases (class C), which makes an ABC extinguisher the common choice for offices, shops and factories. Balaji's portable ABC units are stored pressure types, which means the cylinder is kept pressurised and discharges as soon as the valve is opened; Balaji lists nitrogen as the driving gas. The cylinders are mild steel.
Pick the size by the space and risk. Balaji lists portable units of 1, 2, 4, 6 and 9 kg: the 1 kg and 2 kg units are handy for vehicles and small rooms, while the 4 kg to 9 kg units are sized for buildings. One 1 kg listing uses MAP50 powder, a mono ammonium phosphate based ABC powder, and is wall mounted with an operating range of -5 to +55 degrees C.
Certification differs by listing, so check it before you buy. Balaji lists its 4 kg unit as ISI to IS 15683, and its 6 kg and 9 kg listings also show ISI (one 6 kg listing adds BIS, ISO and CE); the 1 kg and 2 kg listings do not show an ISI mark. For large areas, Balaji offers 25 kg and 50 kg trolley mounted ABC units, with the 25 kg unit listed as ISI to IS 15683.
