Where a 9 litre water fire extinguisher is used

Across the 13 models here, as their makers list them: full weight about 13.1 to 14.8 kg, height about 575 to 635 mm, discharge time about 13 to 35 seconds and throw about 2 to 8 m.

Water must not be used on burning oil or petrol, or on live electrical equipment unless the maker has tested the unit for that, so water units go where the risk is ordinary combustibles and an ABC or CO2 unit covers the rest. Ceasefire's spray models add an F rating for small cooking oil fires.

How to choose

Cartridge (water CO2) units keep the gas in a separate cartridge and are refilled on site; stored pressure units show their charge on a gauge. Minimax lists 6A for its 9 litre cartridge unit against 3A for its stored pressure units, and Ceasefire lists 4A under IS 15683 and 21A under EN 3.

Kanex and Minimax offer stainless steel bodies, which resist corrosion from the water inside.

Frequently asked questions

Water or foam: which one should I buy?
Water is for wood, paper and cloth only. Foam covers those and burning petrol, diesel and oil as well, so most buyers with any fuel or oil on site choose foam.
What is the price of a 9 litre fire extinguisher in Bhopal?
It depends on the agent (water, AFFF, AR-AFFF or fluorine free foam), stored pressure or cartridge operation, the body and the quantity, and makers change their price lists often, so we quote each order instead of listing prices. Send the size, the brand if you have one in mind, and the quantity on WhatsApp at +91 92440 89060 and we will reply with the current price. Every supply is billed on a GST invoice.
Does a 9 litre fire extinguisher need refilling?
Yes. It must be refilled after every use, even a short burst, and checked regularly: the seal should be intact, the service label in date and, on stored pressure units, the gauge needle in the green band. We refill and test water and foam extinguishers of every brand in Bhopal, see fire extinguisher refilling.
How many 9 litre fire extinguishers does my building need?
That depends on the floor area, the kind of fire risk and the rules that apply to the building: IS 2190, the National Building Code and, for a Fire NOC, the MP Fire Department. Our engineers work it out on a free site visit in Bhopal and tell you the number, size and type for each floor.
