Match the base to the detector range first. The XPERT 8 Base is a universal base for Apollo Soteria, Discovery and XP95 detectors, while the XPERT 7 Base, in white or black, suits the XP95 and Discovery ranges. Both use XPERT addressing: the detector's loop address is set by a coded XPERT card held in the base, and Apollo supplies the cards with its XPERT 7 bases. Soteria Dimension detectors are flush mounted in their own Soteria Dimension mounting box.
Decide whether the base must isolate. An isolator senses a short circuit in the loop wiring and cuts off only the small section around it, so the rest of the loop keeps working. The XPERT 7 Isolating Base does this on Discovery loops and spurs, with up to 20 detectors or their equivalent load allowed between isolating bases. The XPERT 8 Base supports isolated and non-isolated devices and keeps the loop connected while a device is briefly removed. The separate Isolator Base accepts only the Apollo Isolator 55000-720.
For conventional Series 65 systems, choose the standard base, the Diode base (a Schottky diode on the L1 IN and L1 OUT terminals so call points and detectors can share one circuit and it keeps working if a detector is removed), or the Relay base with one set of volt-free changeover contacts that switch on alarm. The Orbis TimeSaver bases have grouped terminals, two fixing centres and a cable stripping guide, and the relay version switches up to 30 V at 1 A. AlarmSense detectors fit only the AlarmSense Base.
For hazardous areas, the XPERT 7 I.S. Base accepts only intrinsically safe detectors, so a standard detector cannot be fitted into an I.S. system by mistake. Intrinsically safe equipment limits electrical energy so that it cannot ignite an explosive atmosphere. FPS supplies and fits the correct base for each Apollo detector in Bhopal and across Madhya Pradesh.
