First decide what the lanyard has to do. Energy absorbing lanyards (EN 355) are for fall arrest: the absorber opens under load and lowers the force on the body. Plain rope and strap lanyards (EN 354) have no absorber, so they are used for restraint, to keep the worker from reaching an edge, or as a part of a complete system. Work positioning lanyards (EN 358) are clipped to the side points of a positioning belt so the user can lean back and work with both hands.
Then choose the form. A twin leg (Y) lanyard lets one leg stay clipped while the other moves to the next anchor. Delta Plus offers webbing absorber lanyards in 1 m and 2 m, braided 10.5 mm and stranded 12 mm rope lanyards in 1, 1.50 and 2 m, and a 25 mm tubular strap that is both lanyard and anchorage point. Connector codes in the references are AM002 and AM010 carabiners, the AM022 hook and the AM016 swivel connector with fall indicator; references with no connectors listed in the catalogue need connectors added.
For vertical work, a retractable fall arrester (EN 360) pays the line out and in as the user moves and locks if a fall starts. MINIBLOC AN102 has a 2.50 m strap, MEDBLOC AN13006C2 a 6 m webbing line with horizontal use tested, and MAXIBLOC AN100 a steel cable in 6, 10 or 15 m.
