The HS-81 is Honeywell's fire and gas controller for industrial sites. One system brings together flame, gas and smoke detection, logic control and networking, release of suppression and extinguishing systems, and outputs for public address, sounders and beacons. The HS-81/HS/L and HS-81/HS/C are its compact versions, made for tight spaces and for sites that want a discreet panel that is simple for the end user. Each can be ordered with a single or a double power supply.
Choose the version by the standards your project follows. The HS-81/HS/L is the EN version: Honeywell lists EN 54-2 (fire alarm control and indicating equipment), EN 54-4 (power supply equipment), EN 12094 (components for gas extinguishing systems), SIL2 to IEC 61508 (functional safety) and ATEX (the European rules for equipment in explosive atmospheres). The HS-81/HS/C is the UL version, listed with UL 864, SIL2 to IEC 61508, ATEX, and the gas detection standards IEC 60079-29-1 and IEC 60079-29-3.
Both versions are built to keep working through a fault. Hot backup CPUs stand ready to take over, and the CPUs, power supplies and cards are hot-swappable, which means they can be changed while the panel stays on. The panel tests card inputs and outputs automatically, signals faults on cards and CPUs, safely switches off a card that malfunctions, and talks over a redundant, looped communication bus. Redundant cards can be fitted for fire and gas duties, and the panel works with addressable detection systems on more than one protocol.
