How to choose
Choose the style by where the pipe runs and what the ceiling looks like. Pendent sprinklers hang down from the pipe and upright sprinklers point up from it. A recessed pendent sits partly inside an escutcheon (rosette) plate for false ceilings, and a concealed sprinkler hides behind a flat cover plate for a smooth ceiling. Sidewall sprinklers, horizontal or vertical, mount along a wall or the side of a beam just beneath a smooth ceiling.
Next, the K-factor. It describes the size of the sprinkler orifice: a higher K passes more water at the same pressure. HD offers K 5.6 (80 metric) in most styles, K 8 (115 metric) in pendent, upright, recessed and horizontal sidewall versions, and K 11.2 (160 metric), whose extra large orifice meets light and ordinary hazard densities at lower pressures than standard or large orifice sprinklers.
Then response and temperature. In all HD sprinklers a liquid filled glass bulb holds the seal shut; in a fire the liquid expands and the bulb shatters, and water hits the deflector to form a spray. Quick response models use a thinner 3 mm bulb and standard response models a 5 mm bulb. The temperature rating must suit the ceiling area, and ratings vary by model, so confirm the rating with us. Most styles cover a standard area; the HSW extended coverage model spreads water over a larger area from one head.
