All the nozzles on this page are non-automatic and open: they have no heat sensitive bulb, and they spray as soon as water reaches them, usually when a deluge valve opens. What you choose depends on the job the water has to do.
For direct fire attack on oil and electrical hazards, HD's high velocity (HV) nozzles throw a directional spray at high velocity, and are used on transformers, circuit breakers, oil-fired boilers and lube oil systems. For cooling and control, the medium velocity (MV) nozzle delivers a uniformly filled cone of medium velocity droplets and comes in 11 K-factors from 18 to 102 metric and spray angles from 65° to 160°, so the pattern can be matched to the surface. A higher K-factor passes more water at the same pressure. The reverse action nozzle sprays its cone in the opposite direction to the water inlet, at 120° or 140°.
For storage tanks, tank cooling nozzles (models TS and TSS) are mounted upright at a distance from the tank wall so that the tank does not absorb heat from a fire nearby, and the revolving nozzle on a fixed roof tank top starts turning at 2 bar and covers about 10 metres in diameter at that pressure. For exposure protection, water curtain nozzles (CN and CNS) form a spray that absorbs and reflects heat radiation before it reaches a wall, window or steel structure, and the jumbo JCS nozzle throws a flat curtain upward to divide one area from another.
Check approvals for your project: the MV nozzle is UL Listed, FM Approved and Lloyd's Register Type Approved, the ¾ inch HV nozzle is UL Listed and FM Approved, and the 1 inch HV, reverse action, tank cooling and water curtain nozzles are UL Listed.
