How to choose
A landing valve is the hydrant outlet where the fire hose is connected. New Age makes gunmetal landing valves in oblique, straight, right angled, turn down, bib nose and gate patterns; the pattern sets the direction in which the hose leaves the valve, so choose it to suit the space around the riser or hydrant post. Most have a 3 inch flanged inlet and a 2½ inch female instantaneous outlet, with NH, NST or BSP male threaded outlets also offered on several models.
Check the approval your project needs. The oblique flanged valve and the double headed hydrant valve are ISI marked to IS 5290, the Indian Standard for landing valves. The oblique flanged and oblique threaded valves and both bib nose valves are FM Approved, and the brass angle hose valve is UL Listed. The straight, right angled, turn down and gate pattern valves are not listed with an approval.
In tall buildings the pressure at the lower landing valves can be too high for safe hose handling. A pressure regulating valve, such as New Age's Class F valve to BS 5041 or its bib nose pressure regulating valve, holds a steady outlet pressure whatever the inlet pressure and can be adjusted on site for each floor. A pressure restricting valve is simpler: it limits how far the valve opens, which lowers the pressure while water flows but has no effect on static pressure.
For yard hydrant systems, choose between hydrant standposts (one, two or four way), a dry barrel pillar hydrant with a 4 inch pumper connection, and underground hydrants used with a surface box and an aluminium standpipe with BS 336 instantaneous outlets.
