A water spray nozzle is a fixed nozzle in a water spray system. Most of the Tyco nozzles here are open (non-automatic), so all of them discharge together when the system valve opens; the EA-1 is the automatic exception, opening by its own frangible bulb. Medium velocity nozzles (Protectospray EA-1, D3 and D4a, and the MV range) throw a filled cone of medium velocity droplets, mainly to cool the exposed surfaces of tanks, vessels and structures so they do not absorb too much heat from a nearby fire; at a high enough design density they can also control or extinguish fire. High velocity nozzles (Mulsifyre and HV) throw faster droplets and are aimed mainly at putting out oil and flammable liquid fires, for example on transformers.
Then match orifice, spray angle and material. Each data sheet offers a range of orifice sizes and spray angles. MV nozzles come in stainless steel, brass with leaded gunmetal LG2, titanium or 254 SMO, and the smaller sizes (MV10 to MV30) have an orifice insert and strainer. HV nozzles have an integral strainer and come in brass or stainless steel, and the D4a has a four arm body that helps protect it from knocks. For tanks, the MV-R reverse action nozzle covers spherical vessels and bulk tanks from any angle, and the MV-T covers tank tops.
Special hazards have their own nozzles. Type 1 and 2 cooling tower nozzles suit crossflow towers with and without diffusion decks. TN-25 and TN-17 horizontal spray nozzles let a single pipe run the length of a tunnel deluge system. Issue A and B window sprinklers wet window glazing against outside exposure fires, and the B-1 foam-water sprinkler draws in air to discharge foam in foam-water deluge systems. FPS supplies, installs and maintains Tyco nozzles in Bhopal and across Madhya Pradesh.
