Residential sprinklers are made for dwellings rather than shops or factories. Every model here is from the Tyco Series LFII, which Tyco designs for homes, apartments, dormitories and hotels (the polymeric K3.0 for homes), with heat sensitivity and water spread aimed at helping control a home fire and giving occupants a better chance to escape. They are used in systems built to NFPA 13D (one- and two-family dwellings and mobile homes), NFPA 13R (residential buildings up to and including four storeys) or NFPA 13 (the residential parts of any building). These are US National Fire Protection Association standards.
Choose the K-factor with your designer. The K3.0 pendent is sized for small rooms up to 14 ft by 14 ft, to avoid over-discharging, which Tyco says lets the required flow come through smaller pipes from a smaller water supply. The range also comes in K4.2, K4.4, K4.9 and K5.8, and the K5.6 sidewall, the K5.8 sidewall in TFP417 and the K6.9 models are NFPA 13 optimized, meant for NFPA 13 designs that need higher flows.
Then choose the style. Pendent and recessed pendent heads hang from the ceiling; horizontal sidewall heads fit on a wall; concealed pendents hide behind a flat or domed cover plate, and there is a concealed sidewall too. The polymeric K3.0 and K4.9 concealed pendents must be fitted to plastic sprinkler pipe and fittings, and carry NSF/ANSI 61 certification (a US standard for drinking water system components) and NSF/ANSI 372 lead-free certification. Most concealed models pair a 68°C sprinkler with a 59°C cover plate, and Tyco limits several of them to ceilings no hotter than 38°C.
Most LFII models are for wet pipe systems only. The TFP400 pendent, TFP410 sidewall and TFP450 domed plate concealed pendent carry a UL listing for dry pipe systems as well, and the dry-type TFP460 and TFP461 are for pipes running into unheated areas.
