A deluge valve holds back the water from a system of open sprinklers or nozzles; when the detection system operates, the valve opens and all of them discharge together. A preaction valve does the same job on a system of closed sprinklers: detection opens the valve and fills the pipes, but water comes out only where a sprinkler has opened in the heat of the fire. Most Tyco valves on this page are the DV-5A, a diaphragm type automatic water control valve in DN40 to DN200, epoxy coated inside and out. It is reset from outside by re-pressurising the diaphragm chamber, with no cover to open, and when trimmed it also raises the fire alarm.
Next, choose how the valve is released. Wet pilot and dry pilot versions are opened by pilot lines, filled with water or with air, that carry heat sensitive releases such as pilot sprinklers or FTR-1 fixed temperature releases; dry lines also need a DP-1 or DP-2 dry pilot actuator. Electric versions are opened by a releasing panel and solenoid valve. Remote-resetting versions can be opened and closed under full flow from a remote location, and the pressure-reducing version also holds a preset outlet pressure. The SV-1 is a separate diaphragm deluge valve, DN80 to DN200, for vertical installation only and rated 12 bar.
For preaction, single interlock means one event, the detection system operating, opens the valve. It suits computer rooms, archives and libraries where a damaged sprinkler or pipe could cause serious water damage, and a low air pressure in the pipes is monitored to reveal leaks. Double interlock means two independent events are needed, detection and a sprinkler opening, for areas such as refrigerated spaces where accidental flooding of the pipes must be avoided; Tyco offers electric/pneumatic and electric/electric versions. TFP1485 (DV-5A Preaction Type A) and TFP1486 (DPV-1 Preaction Type B) are designed to EN 12845.
Red-E Cabinet packages put a DV-5A riser, control valve and switches, and in two of the three versions a control panel with back-up batteries, into one pre-wired, free-standing cabinet. Approvals differ by data sheet and trim, so FPS checks the TFP number for each project before supplying and installing Tyco deluge and preaction valves in Bhopal and across Madhya Pradesh.
