A ball valve opens and shuts with a quarter turn of the handle, which turns a drilled ball inside the body, and is used to isolate a line quickly. Kartar's cast iron ball valves are made to IS 9890 in PN 16 with a stainless steel ball and stem and Teflon seals: K801 with screwed ends and K802 with flanged ends in a 3 piece design, both from 15 mm to 100 mm. Kartar's website adds that both can be installed at up to 200 degrees centigrade and 35 bar, have a blowout proof stem and gland packing that can be replaced under pressure, and can take an ISO:5211 actuator mounting flange.
Choose the ends to suit your pipework. Screwed K801 valves have BSPT threads to IS:554 as standard, and NPT or other threads can be provided; they come in full bore or reduced bore. Flanged K802 valves have flange dimensions to ANSI B16.1, and Kartar can supply other dimensions or standards. For fire lines, the red K-938 cast iron screwed ball valve is ISI marked to IS 9890, with an MS lever coated in PVC, from 15 mm to 100 mm.
For building services and smaller lines choose a non ferrous or stainless valve. The forged brass ball valve (K916, K611) is full bore with a brass ball and stem, Teflon seals and a chrome plated finish, PN 40, from 10 mm to 100 mm, and there is an Eco version (K611E) in 10 mm to 25 mm. The gunmetal ball valve K609 is full bore with a brass ball and stem and a natural bronze finish, PN1.6, from 15 mm to 50 mm. The investment cast stainless steel ball valve has an SS ball, stem and handle with Teflon seals: K804 with a WOG 1000 rating from 15 mm to 50 mm and K804.E in PN 40 from 15 mm to 25 mm.
