Start with the mounting position. A pendent sprinkler hangs down from the pipe and suits pipework hidden above a false ceiling. An upright sprinkler points up from the top of an exposed pipe, as in warehouses, plant rooms and car parks. A sidewall sprinkler is fixed on a wall and throws water out across the room. Kartar's forged brass sprinkler comes in all three types, each with a 15 mm screwed connection, a 175 psi rating and a 68°C temperature rating, which is the temperature at which the head opens.
If your project needs ISI marked heads, choose the K908.I series (K908.I BP pendent, K908.I BU upright, K908.I BS sidewall). The K908 BP, K908 BU and K908 BS heads share the same 15 mm size and 68°C rating but are listed without the ISI mark. Kartar does not state a K factor for these heads, so we confirm it with the maker against your hydraulic design before quoting.
Finish the ceiling with a rosette plate: the fixed version (K908 FR) for a set pipe drop and the adjustable version (K908 AR) to take up small differences between the drop and the finished ceiling. Where appearance matters, Kartar also lists a concealed sprinkler with a forged brass body.
For open spray systems Kartar makes brass nozzles: water curtain nozzles in 1/2 inch BSP (heavy and medium), medium velocity spray nozzles in 1/2 inch BSP and high velocity spray nozzles in 3/4 inch BSP, with or without a built-in strainer. For testing and draining the installation, Kartar's K922 test and drain valve is made in stainless steel 304, rated PN-20, in 25 mm to 50 mm.
