A check valve, also called a non return valve (NRV) or reflux valve, lets water flow one way and closes when the flow reverses, so it protects pumps and stops mains from draining back. Kartar's swing type NRVs have flanged ends drilled to IS 1538, an SS AISI 410 hinge pin and are made to IS 5312 (Part-1): cast iron in PN 1.0 (K514 rubber seat, K515 gunmetal seat) and ductile iron with blue epoxy paint in PN 1.6 (K516 rubber seat, K517 gunmetal seat), both from 50 mm to 500 mm. The K517 D is a DI resilient seated NRV with an EPDM encapsulated DI door and 250 micron epoxy coating, and the K520 is a DI ball type NRV with an EPDM encapsulated DI ball.
Where space is short, choose a wafer check valve that fits between two flanges. Kartar's dual plate check valves have two spring loaded plates with stainless steel springs, an SS AISI 410 shaft and a Nitrile seal moulded into the body, in CI or DI bodies with DI or SS doors (K711, K711 S, K712, K712 S), from 50 mm to 300 mm in PN 1.0. The compact wafer single door check valve has a DI body with a DI or MS door (K710) or an SS door (K710S). Larger sizes come as the flange type dual plate valve, K711 in 250 mm to 300 mm and K712 in 250 mm to 600 mm.
For fire lines Kartar makes red valves in PN 16, from 50 mm to 200 mm with higher sizes on request: the K-940 DI swing NRV with rubber seat to IS 5312, the K-936 compact wafer DI check valve (SS disc up to 100 mm, MS disc above) and the K-937 dual plate check valve with CI body, DI doors and Nitrile or EPDM seat. For higher pressure there are the made to order K710-X and K711-X in PN2.0.
For other services, Kartar makes cast steel swing check valves to BS 1868 with SS-304 seating, in Class 150 (K402) and Class 300 (K405), gunmetal horizontal (K602) and vertical (K603) check valves to IS 778 with screwed ends in 15 mm to 100 mm, and the K721 investment cast stainless steel non slam check valve, a spring loaded wafer valve in PN 40, in 25, 40 and 50 mm.
