A butterfly valve opens and closes the flow with a disc that turns a quarter turn inside the pipe, so it is compact and quick to operate. Kartar's wafer valves are made to IS 13095 and fit between two pipe flanges. The K Line (K701 with CF8-304 disc, K702 with CF8M-316 disc) and the Slimline (K706 with DI disc, K707 with SS disc) have a CI body with an integrally moulded Nitrile or EPDM liner, PN 1.0, from 25 mm to 600 mm. The Aqualine (K706A, K707A) covers 40 mm to 150 mm with lever operation, and the two lug design (K701N, K702N) covers 50 mm to 150 mm. Where the liner may need changing in service, choose the replaceable liner valve (K703, K704), with spare liners (K705).
For fire hydrant and sprinkler lines Kartar makes red, ISI marked wafer valves in PN 16, lever operated, from 50 mm to 200 mm: K-935 with an S.S. disc and actuator mountable top, and K-934 with an SG iron disc, both with an EPDM liner and SS stem. For higher pressure there is the cast steel body K713 in PN 2.5 (IS 13095 and BS.5155, 25 mm to 300 mm) and the made to order DI body K701-XS and K701-XD in PN 2.0 (50 mm to 300 mm).
For larger lines and flanged connections, choose a double flanged valve. The centre line disc design (K714 DI disc, K715 SS disc) has a DI body and moulded liner in PN 1.0, gear operated from 80 mm to 300 mm or lever operated (K714 L, K715 L) up to 200 mm. The double eccentric K716 has a DI body with a Nitrile or EPDM rubber seal in PN 1.6, gear operated, from 80 mm to 1000 mm.
Small wafer valves are lever operated; Kartar fits a gear above 150 mm or 200 mm depending on the model, and sells the K709 box type gear separately. Most wafer valves are direct actuator mountable. Kartar supplies pneumatic actuators (K717 double acting, K718 single acting), electrical on and off actuators without starters (K719, 415V three phase or 220V single phase) and a supervisory switch with position indicator (K720, UL/FM approved or non UL), but states that it does not manufacture actuators: it buys and supplies them as per customer requirement.
