How to choose

DI stands for ductile iron. DI fittings join ductile iron pipes and connect them to valves, pumps and hydrants. They come with two kinds of joint: socket ends, where a plain pipe end pushes into the socket and seals on a rubber ring, and flanged ends, which bolt to a matching flange on a valve or another fitting. Kartar's DI fittings are ISI marked to IS 9523 and tested to 25 kg/cm2. IS 9523 does not specify weights, so Kartar makes no commitment on fitting weights.

For changes of direction, Kartar makes double socket (D/S) bends at 90 degrees (80 mm to 500 mm) and at 45, 22.5 and 11.25 degrees (80 mm to 450 mm), a double flanged (D/F) 90 degree bend (80 mm to 300 mm) and a duck foot bend (80 mm to 200 mm), which supports a vertical pipe at its base. For branches there are all socket (A/S) tees from 80 x 80 x 80 to 450 x 450 x 450, all flange (A/F) tees up to 200 x 200 x 200, Y tees in 100 and 150 mm, and fire hydrant and air valve tees with a flanged branch of 40, 50, 80 or 100 mm on mains up to 450 mm. Tapers (reducers) come double socket (D/S) and double flanged (D/F).

Flange spigot and flange socket pieces (80 mm to 600 mm) connect flanged valves to socket jointed pipe, collars (100 mm to 300 mm) and M/J collars (mechanical joints, 80 mm to 600 mm) join plain pipe ends, and blank flanges, end caps and end plugs close off lines. Kartar's standard flanges are drilled to IS 1538 and made in PN 1.0 from 50 mm to 1200 mm; its flange outside diameter table also lists IS 9523 PN 1.0 and PN 1.6, Tables D, E, F and H and Class 150, which helps when matching flanges to other equipment. Seal socket joints with rubber gaskets in natural rubber or EPDM (80 mm to 600 mm) or Tyton rings.

Frequently asked questions

What does DI mean in pipe fittings?
DI stands for ductile iron, the material of the fitting body. Kartar's bends, tees, reducers, flanges and other fittings in this range are listed as DI.
Are Kartar DI fittings ISI marked?
Yes. Kartar lists its DI fittings as ISI marked to IS 9523 and tested to 25 kg/cm2. Weights are not committed, as IS 9523 does not specify them.
What is the difference between a socket fitting and a flanged fitting?
A socket fitting takes a plain pipe end pushed into it and sealed with a rubber ring, while a flanged fitting bolts to another flange. Socket joints are common on buried mains, and flanges are common at valves and pumps.
Which sizes are available?
Most Kartar DI fittings run from 80 mm up to 450 mm or 600 mm depending on the type, and flanges from 50 mm to 1200 mm. Tell us the fitting and size and we will confirm it.
Can Kartar flanges match other flange standards?
Kartar's standard flanges are to IS 1538. Its flange OD table covers IS 9523, Tables D, E, F and H and Class 150, and any change of flange OD needs the maker's confirmation.
