HFC 227ea (FM-200) Fire Suppression System in Bhopal

HFC 227ea is the clean agent Chemours sells as FM-200. Stored as a liquid under nitrogen pressure, it is discharged as a gas within 10 seconds, puts the fire out without wetting or marking anything, and is cleared afterwards by ventilation. FPS supplies, installs and services HFC 227ea room, rack and panel systems from Ceasefire, Kanex and Honeywell in Bhopal and across Madhya Pradesh.

How an HFC 227ea system works

Detectors in the room, often cross zoned so that two must agree, signal the gas release panel. The panel sounds the alarm and counts down so people can leave, then opens the cylinder valves. The agent flows through the pipes, leaves the nozzles as a gas and reaches extinguishing levels within 10 seconds.

HFC 227ea (heptafluoropropane) puts the fire out mainly by taking heat out of it, at a concentration that leaves enough oxygen in the room. It is non conductive and leaves no residue, so servers, panels and papers come through without damage.

HFC 227ea is an HFC, a group of gases being phased down worldwide under the Kigali Amendment because of their effect on the climate. It remains in use and in supply, but if you are planning a new room, also look at FK-5-1-12 or inert gas.

HFC 227ea room flooding systems

Ceasefire stores HFC 227ea as a liquid pressurised with nitrogen and releases it through a piping network and nozzles, reaching extinguishing levels in 10 seconds or less. Honeywell offers its system at 25 and 42 bar, super pressurised with dry nitrogen, and lists NFPA 2001 and PESO. Kanex designs engineered systems for HFC 227ea or FK-5-1-12, with multi zone layouts and the UL and FM approvals it lists.

Server racks

The Ceasefire SQRS fits inside a server rack with two photoelectric smoke detectors, the controls, an HFC 227ea cylinder and an alarm, and reaches extinguishing levels in 10 seconds or less. The Kanex direct low pressure panel and rack system offers HFC 227ea among its agents.

HFC 227ea inside electrical panels

Ceasefire in-panel tube systems with HFC 227ea discharge right at the fire when the heat sensing tube bursts, in direct and indirect versions, LPCB tested for forced and natural air flow cabinets.

For a first response at the door of the room, Ceasefire makes a stored pressure HFC 227ea clean agent extinguisher.

How to choose

Size by the room: the agent quantity comes from the room volume, the lowest temperature expected and the design concentration for the risk. The room must also hold the gas for the time the maker sets, so gaps in walls, raised floors and ducts are sealed or fitted with dampers.

Choose the pressure: a 42 bar system pushes the agent through longer runs of smaller pipe, so the cylinders can sit further from the room.

Plan the safety around it: a gas release panel with a countdown and an abort switch, hooters and signs at the doors, and an AMC that checks agent weight and pressure at least every six months.

Frequently asked questions

Is HFC 227ea the same as FM-200?
Yes. HFC 227ea (heptafluoropropane) is the agent, and FM-200 is the name Chemours sells it under. Systems are listed by their makers for HFC 227ea, and we fill and service them with the agent they are listed for.
Is HFC 227ea safe for people?
Honeywell presents its HFC 227ea system as suitable where people are present, at the design concentration. The release panel counts down before the discharge so everyone can leave, and the room is ventilated before people go back in.
Is HFC 227ea being banned?
It is not banned. It is an HFC, and India, like other countries, is phasing down HFCs under the Kigali Amendment, so supply and price may tighten over the years. Existing systems can be serviced and refilled; for a new room, also consider FK-5-1-12 or inert gas.
How much HFC 227ea does a room need?
It is worked out from the room volume, the lowest temperature and the design concentration for the risk. We calculate it on a site survey and size the cylinders and nozzles to match.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the volume to protect, the agent, the number of zones and the release panel, so we quote after a free site survey. Send the room size and what it holds on WhatsApp at +91 92440 89060. Every supply is billed on a GST invoice.

FM-200 is a trademark of Chemours and Novec of 3M. Fire Protection System is not affiliated with either and uses the names only to describe the agent.
