How to choose

Start with the joint type on your pipes. Socket fittings take the plain spigot end of a DI pipe and seal with a Tyton ring, the rubber gasket of a push on joint, and are the usual choice on buried mains. Flanged fittings bolt together and suit exposed pipework at pumps and valves, where parts may need to be taken out. Kartar Valves offers bends, tees and reducers in socket and flanged forms, plus flange socket and flange spigot pieces to change from one joint type to the other.

Then pick the fittings for the route. Socket bends come at 90, 45, 22.5 and 11.25 degrees, the smaller angles giving gentle changes of direction, and a 90 degree flanged bend is available for pump and valve connections. A duckfoot bend has a foot that supports a vertical pipe at its base, for example at the foot of a riser or hydrant stand post. For branches, choose an all socket tee, an all flange tee, an all socket Y tee for an angled branch, or a tee with a flanged branch so a valve can be bolted straight onto the branch.

To join two plain pipe ends or repair a damaged pipe, use a DI collar or a mechanical joint, in which a gland and bolts press a rubber gasket around the pipe. End caps close a pipe end and plugs close a socket end, for example at the dead end of a main that will be extended later. Loose DI flanges are available for making bolted joints.

Kartar Valves publishes names and photos for these fittings, so FPS confirms size, pressure class and flange drilling with the maker to match your pipe before quoting. FPS supplies and installs DI fittings for hydrant ring mains and water lines across Madhya Pradesh.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between socket and flanged DI fittings?
Socket fittings take the spigot end of a pipe and seal with a rubber Tyton ring, and are mostly used on buried mains. Flanged fittings are bolted together and are used where pipework is exposed or must be taken apart, such as at pumps and valves.
What is a Tyton ring?
A Tyton ring is the rubber gasket that seals a push on socket joint in ductile iron pipes and fittings. Kartar Valves supplies them, with sizes confirmed on enquiry.
What is a duckfoot bend used for?
A duckfoot bend has a foot that supports a vertical pipe at its base, so it is used where a buried main turns upward, for example into a riser or hydrant stand post. Kartar Valves offers it with flanged ends.
How do I connect a flanged valve to a socket jointed main?
Use a flange socket or flange spigot piece to change from a flanged joint to a socket joint, or a tee with a flanged branch where the valve sits on a branch. FPS can work out the fittings needed from your layout.
Which sizes of DI fittings are available?
Kartar Valves publishes names and photos for its DI fittings, so sizes, pressure class and flange drilling are confirmed on enquiry. Share your pipe size and layout and FPS will confirm the details with the maker.
Does FPS supply and install DI fittings, and how do I get a price?
FPS supplies and installs DI pipe fittings in Bhopal and across MP. Prices depend on size and quantity and are shared on request: call or WhatsApp +91 92440 89060.
