How to choose
A foot valve is a non return valve fitted at the lowest end of a pump's suction pipe. When the pump stops, it closes and holds the water column in the pipe, so the pump does not lose its prime and can restart straight away.
Pick by size and connection. The IS-21 is a two piece gun metal foot valve with a synthetic rubber O ring and integral seat, with female threads to IS-554 parallel, from 15 mm to 100 mm, tested at 300 psig. The BFV is a Y pattern cast iron ball foot valve rated PN16, flanged to IS 1538, from 80 mm to 250 mm: a rubber coated MS ball closes on a nitrile rubber seat ring, and a cast iron strainer keeps debris out of the pump.
