Sant Valves Gate and Sluice Valves in Bhopal

Fire Protection System, an authorised Sant Valves distributor in Bhopal, supplies Sant gate and sluice valves in bronze (gun metal), cast iron, ductile iron, cast steel and forged steel, from 8 mm screwed valves to 300 mm flanged sluice valves. Many bronze and cast iron models are made to IS 778 or IS 14846 and carry the ISI mark.

Where to use Gate and Sluice Valves

  • Isolation on fire hydrant ring mains and yard piping (cast iron sluice valves)
  • Fire pump suction and delivery isolation in pump rooms
  • Outlets of overhead and underground water tanks
  • Building water supply risers and plumbing branches (bronze screwed valves)
  • Water supply and distribution mains
  • Oil lines in plants and workshops (bronze and cast iron models listed for oil)
  • High pressure process and utility lines (forged and cast steel, Class 600 to Class 1500)

How to choose

Gate and sluice valves both work by lifting a wedge clear of the flow, so when fully open the water passes almost straight through. They are meant to be fully open or fully shut for isolation, not for regulating flow. In India the larger flanged cast iron gate valves used on water mains are usually called sluice valves. Sant's CR series sluice valves are flanged to IS 1538, from 50 mm to 300 mm, and the CR-32 and CR-32B are made to IS 14846 (the Indian Standard for sluice valves for water works) and are ISI marked.

Check the stem type. On a non rising stem (NRS, inside screw) valve the handwheel turns the stem without it moving up, which suits pits, ducts and tight spaces. On a rising stem valve, and especially an outside screw and yoke (OS&Y) valve, the stem climbs as the valve opens, so its position can be seen from a distance. For sluice valves, CR-32A and CR-19B are OS&Y rising stem; CR-19, CR-19A, CR-32 and CR-32B are non rising stem.

For bronze valves, choose the IS 778 class and the ends. Class 1 valves are body tested at 1.5 MPa and Class 2 at 2.4 MPa, and the IS-7 is Class 3 with a 50 kg/cm² body test. Screwed valves have female threads to IS 554 (parallel) or BSP to BS 21; flanged valves have IS 778 or BS 10 flanges, undrilled. The RSV is a resilient seated ductile iron valve with an EPDM covered wedge, PN-16, with drilled IS-1538 flanges.

Forged steel (FSV series, API 602 or BS 5352, Class 600 to Class 1500) and cast steel (CS-7B, API 600 or BS-1414, Class 600) valves are for high pressure industrial lines. None of the valves on this page are listed as UL or FM approved; where the fire design calls for listed valves, choose from Sant's UL Listed and FM Approved range. FPS supplies and installs Sant valves in Bhopal and across Madhya Pradesh.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a gate valve and a sluice valve?
Both isolate a line by raising a wedge out of the flow. Sluice valve is the common Indian name for larger flanged cast iron gate valves on water mains, such as Sant's CR series from 50 mm to 300 mm.
What do Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3 mean on Sant bronze gate valves?
They are pressure classes under IS 778, the Indian Standard for copper alloy gate, globe and check valves. Sant body tests Class 1 valves at 1.5 MPa and Class 2 valves at 2.4 MPa, and the Class 3 IS-7 at 50 kg/cm².
Which Sant sluice valves are ISI marked?
The CR-32 (PN 10) and CR-32B (PN 16) cast iron sluice valves are made to IS 14846 and ISI marked. The CR-32A and CR-19B follow IS 14846 face to face dimensions, and the CR-19 follows IS 780 face to face and flange dimensions.
Should I choose a rising stem or non rising stem valve?
Choose rising stem or OS&Y where you want to see at a glance whether the valve is open, and non rising stem where headroom is limited or the valve sits in a pit. Sant offers both in bronze and in cast iron sluice valves.
Can these valves be used on fire hydrant lines?
Sant lists its cast iron sluice valves and the RSV resilient seated valve for water service, and FPS can advise on the pressure class your hydrant line needs. If the consultant or insurer requires UL Listed or FM Approved valves, use the Sant UL/FM range instead.
How do I get a price for Sant gate valves?
Prices depend on model, size and quantity and are given on request. Call or WhatsApp +91 92440 89060 with your list and FPS will quote for supply or supply with installation across MP.
