How to choose
A butterfly valve has a disc on a shaft that turns a quarter turn to open or shut the line. Most Sant models are wafer type: a short body that is clamped between two pipe flanges, so the valve takes up far less length in the line than a gate valve of the same size. Check the flange standard your pipework uses; Sant lists BS 10 Table D/E and ASME B 16.1 Class 125 for most cast iron models.
Pick the pressure rating. Sant offers PN 10 (CR-23, CR-24), PN 16 (BFY, BFX, CR-28C and the grooved D81X4 / D381X4), PN 10/PN 16 (CR-21A, CR-21B, CR-22A, CR-22B and the CIBF actuated range), PN 20 (CR-27A) and PN 25 (CR-28D in ductile iron). PN is the nominal pressure class, the number being the rating in bar.
Then choose the disc and lining. Stainless steel discs (SS 304, CF8 or CF8M) are used on the BFY, CR-22 series, CR-24, CR-27A, CR-28C and the CIBF range; SG iron discs are used on the BFX, CR-21 series and CR-23. Seats are EPDM or nitrile lined. Short pattern bodies cover 40 mm to 150 mm in the CR-21A and CR-22A, and medium pattern bodies cover 200 mm to 600 mm in the CR-21B and CR-22B.
Finally decide how it will be operated: lever (BFY, BFX, CR-23, CR-24), electric actuator (CIBFE), pneumatic actuator (CIBFP) or with a limit switch that signals valve position (CIBFL). Which Sant butterfly valves are ISI marked?

Should I choose a stainless steel disc or an SG iron disc?
