How to choose

Sounders give an audible alarm, strobes give a flashing light, and sounder strobes do both, which helps in noisy areas and for people who may not hear the alarm. First decide how the device is powered. The RE-716SS, RE-716ST, RE-25SS, RE-24SS, the RE-24CS mini horn and the two tone sounder run on a 24 V DC supply, such as the panel's sounder circuits. The RE-24LS and RE-24ES are loop powered, which means they take power and signal from the addressable loop itself, so no separate sounder circuit is needed.

For visual alarms, the RE-716SS sounder strobe and the RE-716ST strobe have four light output settings (15, 30, 75 and 110 candela) and mount on a standard 4 x 4 inch back box; Ravel states the RE-716ST complies with NFPA 72 (2016 edition), and lists UL 1971 for both. The RE-25SS and RE-24SS are sounder strobes in FR ABS plastic, the first with ambulance, police car and fire engine tones, the second with a sweep siren.

A sounder base is a base that a detector sits on, with a sounder built in, so one ceiling point gives both detection and alarm. Ravel offers three, all with 8 selectable tones and 80 dB at 1 m: the RE-364BS for Ravel conventional panels, the RE-314EBS for analogue addressable systems (sounder powered from an external 24 V DC supply) and the loop powered RE-374BS, addressed by a tool or by the panel. FPS supplies, installs and maintains Ravel sounders and strobes in Bhopal and across Madhya Pradesh.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a sounder, a strobe and a sounder strobe?
A sounder gives an audible alarm, a strobe gives a flashing light, and a sounder strobe does both. Ravel's RE-716SS is a sounder strobe and the RE-716ST is a strobe only.
What does loop powered mean?
A loop powered sounder takes both power and signal from the addressable loop, so it needs no separate sounder circuit. Ravel's RE-24LS and RE-24ES are loop powered.
What is a sounder base?
It is a detector base with a built in sounder, so the detector and the alarm share one ceiling point. Ravel's sounder bases give 80 dB at 1 m with 8 selectable tones.
Can the strobe brightness be changed?
Yes. The RE-716SS and RE-716ST each have four candela settings: 15, 30, 75 and 110 cd.
Which Ravel sounders carry UL approvals?
Ravel lists UL 1971 and UL 464 for the RE-716SS, UL 1971 for the RE-716ST and UL 464 for the red two tone sounder.
Does FPS install Ravel sounders in Bhopal?
Yes. FPS is a Ravel dealer and supplies, installs and maintains Ravel sounders, strobes and sounder bases in Bhopal and across Madhya Pradesh. Prices are on request: call or WhatsApp +91 92440 89060.
