Clean Agent Fire Suppression System in Bhopal

A clean agent system fills a room with a gas that puts the fire out in seconds and leaves nothing behind, so electronics, records and machines are back in service quickly. The two agents in use are HFC 227ea, which Chemours sells as FM-200, and FK-5-1-12, best known as 3M's Novec 1230. FPS designs, supplies, installs and services both, from Ceasefire, Kanex, Minimax and Honeywell, in Bhopal and across Madhya Pradesh.

HFC 227ea or FK-5-1-12: which clean agent?

Both agents are stored as a liquid in cylinders pressurised with nitrogen and discharged as a gas through pipes and nozzles, reaching extinguishing levels within about 10 seconds. Both are electrically non conductive, leave no residue, and are presented by their makers as suitable for rooms where people work.

HFC 227ea (heptafluoropropane), which Chemours sells as FM-200, has protected server rooms for decades. It is an HFC, a group of gases being phased down worldwide under the Kigali Amendment because of their effect on the climate. FK-5-1-12, a fluoroketone best known as 3M's Novec 1230, is the newer agent, with zero ozone depletion potential and an atmospheric life of about five days.

3M announced in 2022 that it would stop making Novec 1230 by the end of 2025. The agent, FK-5-1-12, is also made by other companies, and it is what Ceasefire, Honeywell, Kanex and Minimax (as Grenoz 1230) list for their systems.

Clean agent fire extinguishers

Keep a portable clean agent extinguisher at the door of every protected room for a first response. Pick a size to compare every brand:

How to choose

Start with the room. We measure its volume, check how well it seals (doors, ducts, raised floor and false ceiling voids) and note what it holds and whether people work in it. The agent quantity follows from the volume and the design concentration the maker lists for the risk.

Then weigh the agents. Both put the fire out in seconds and leave no residue. FK-5-1-12 has the better environmental profile, while HFC 227ea belongs to a group of gases being phased down. For a large site with several rooms, an inert gas system can serve them all from one cylinder bank through selector valves.

Finally, plan the room around the system: a gas release panel with a countdown and an abort switch, hooters and warning signs at each door, and a way to vent the gas afterwards. We design, install and commission the whole system and keep it ready under an AMC.

Frequently asked questions

Is HFC 227ea the same as FM-200?
Yes. HFC 227ea (heptafluoropropane) is the agent, and FM-200 is the name Chemours sells it under. Ceasefire, Honeywell and Kanex offer HFC 227ea systems; see HFC 227ea fire suppression systems.
Is Novec 1230 still available, and what replaces it?
3M announced in 2022 that it would stop making Novec 1230, its brand of FK-5-1-12, by the end of 2025. FK-5-1-12 itself is also made by other companies. If you have a Novec 1230 system, ask us before a refill: we check what agent the system is listed for and arrange the refill and service. See FK-5-1-12 fire suppression systems.
Is a clean agent system safe for people?
Makers present FK-5-1-12 and HFC 227ea systems, at their design concentration, as suitable for rooms where people work, and the release panel counts down before the discharge so everyone can leave. CO2 systems are different: they are for unmanned spaces only.
How fast does a clean agent system work?
Ceasefire and Honeywell list extinguishing levels within 10 seconds of the discharge. The gas is then cleared by ventilation, with no clean up.
Does a clean agent system need maintenance?
Yes. NFPA 2001 calls for the agent quantity and pressure of every cylinder to be checked at least every six months, along with the detectors, the release panel and the room itself. Our AMC covers all of it.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the volume to protect, the agent, the number of zones and the release panel, so we quote after a free site survey. Send the room size and what it holds on WhatsApp at +91 92440 89060. Every supply is billed on a GST invoice.

FM-200 is a trademark of Chemours and Novec of 3M. Fire Protection System is not affiliated with either and uses the names only to describe the agent.
