Deluge System and Deluge Valves in Bhopal

The deluge valve holds the water back in the supply pipe. Beyond it the pipes are empty and open to the air through open sprinklers or spray nozzles. A separate detection system watches the hazard: heat or smoke detectors wired to a panel, or a pilot line of small sprinklers or fixed temperature releases filled with water or air.

When the detection operates, the water holding the valve shut is let out of its priming chamber, the supply pressure opens the valve and water fills the pipes and flows from every nozzle in the zone at once. A water motor gong and a pressure switch raise the alarm, and a manual release station lets someone open the valve by hand.

Because the water comes out everywhere together, a deluge system controls fires that would outrun closed sprinklers opening one by one, and it cools the equipment around them. The same valve feeds MVWS and HVWS water spray systems, water curtains and foam water systems.

HD Fire makes UL Listed differential diaphragm deluge valves in 50 to 200 mm: Model A in cast iron, H2 in cast steel, H3 in ductile iron with auto reset, and H5 in nickel aluminium bronze for sea water. Tyco DV-5A diaphragm valves in DN40 to DN200 come with wet pilot, dry pilot or electric release, and in remote resetting and pressure reducing versions, and the Tyco SV-1 is built for vertical installation.

A skid or cabinet arrives with the valve, trim, gauges and switches assembled and tested in the factory, which saves time on site. HD Fire offers the D-PACK cabinet and the DSK integrated skid in 50 to 200 NB, multi-line skids holding up to 8 valves, and custom engineered skids. Tyco Red-E cabinets come for indoor or outdoor use, with the control panel and back-up batteries built in.

The trim around the valve opens, alarms and resets it. Electric release uses a solenoid valve worked by the detection panel, such as the HD Fire deluge valve local control panel. Pilot lines use fixed temperature releases or pilot sprinklers, with dry pilot actuators on air filled lines. Manual control stations, drip and drain valves, priming shut-off valves and water motor gongs complete the set.

Start with the hazard and what the water must do: put the fire out, control it, or cool the equipment and structures next to it. That sets the nozzle type, the water density and the area each zone covers, as IS 15325 and NFPA 15 lay down for water spray systems.

Then choose the release. Electric detection with heat or smoke detectors suits indoor hazards and links to the fire alarm. A wet or dry pilot line of fixed temperature releases needs no power and suits outdoor plant such as transformer yards and tank farms.

Finally size the valve and the water supply for the largest zone that can operate at once. We survey, design, install, flush and trip test the system, and keep it ready under an AMC.
