How to choose

At 4 kg most MAP 90 units are rated 4A 144B under IS 15683: Ceasefire, the Kanex HQ series and the Kanex HQ cartridge unit. Ceasefire rates its MAP 50 unit 4A 144B too, while other MAP 50 units are rated lower: 3A 89B on the Kanex RQ series and 3A 55B on the Minimax units, with Minimax listing 3A 89B for MAP 90.

Stored pressure units show their charge on a gauge and suit offices and shops; cartridge units from Ceasefire, Kanex and Minimax keep the gas in a separate cartridge and can be refilled on site, which suits workshops and outdoor areas.

Should I buy a 4 kg or a 6 kg ABC fire extinguisher?
A 6 kg unit carries half as much powder again, so it is rated higher and runs longer: the Kanex HQ series is listed at 4A 144B and 18 seconds at 4 kg, and 6A 183B and 24 seconds at 6 kg. It also weighs about 8.9 kg full instead of 6.6 kg. Pick 6 kg for offices, schools and factories, and 4 kg where people who will use it need a lighter unit.
