Where a 6 kg ABC fire extinguisher is used

A 6 kg unit weighs about 8.7 to 10.3 kg when full, stands about 485 to 550 mm tall and discharges for about 15 to 24 seconds, with a throw of about 2 to 6 m for most models. It covers Class A, B and C fires and electrically started fires, so one size can go on every floor of a mixed use building.

How to choose

Most MAP 90 units are rated 6A 183B under IS 15683 at 6 kg (Ceasefire, the Kanex HQ series and the Kanex stainless steel unit); Ceasefire also rates its MAP 50 unit 6A 183B. Kanex RQ MAP 50 units are rated 4A 144B and the Minimax cartridge unit 3A 89B with MAP 50 and 4A 144B with MAP 90.

Ceasefire's EN approved range adds EN 3 ratings (27A 183B at 6 kg) with LPCB and BSI Kitemark marks, for projects that ask for European approvals. For stainless steel bodies, see Ceasefire, Kanex, Minimax and Savemax.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 6 kg ABC fire extinguisher ISI marked?
Most models here are: Ceasefire's BIS models are certified to IS 15683, Kanex portables are BIS approved to IS 15683, Minimax units are ISI marked and Savemax lists ISI marking. Ask us for the certificate copy for your Fire NOC file.
How long does a 6 kg ABC fire extinguisher last when used?
About 15 to 24 seconds of discharge, depending on the model, as each maker lists it. That is why it is for a fire that has just started: aim at the base of the flames and sweep from side to side.
What is the price of a 6 kg ABC fire extinguisher in Bhopal?
It depends on the brand, the powder grade (MAP 50 or MAP 90), stored pressure or cartridge operation, the body and the quantity, and makers change their price lists often, so we quote each order instead of listing prices. Send the size, the brand if you have one in mind, and the quantity on WhatsApp at +91 92440 89060 and we will reply with the current price. Every supply is billed on a GST invoice.
Does a 6 kg ABC fire extinguisher need refilling?
Yes. It must be refilled after every use, even a short burst, and checked regularly: the seal should be intact, the service label in date and, on stored pressure units, the gauge needle in the green band. We refill and pressure test ABC extinguishers of every brand in Bhopal, see fire extinguisher refilling.
How many 6 kg fire extinguishers does my building need?
That depends on the floor area, the kind of fire risk and the rules that apply to the building: IS 2190, the National Building Code and, for a Fire NOC, the MP Fire Department. Our engineers work it out on a free site visit in Bhopal and tell you the number, size and type for each floor.
