Concealed, recessed or flush?
There are three ways to hide a pendent head. A recessed head sits in a cup so only part of it shows below the ceiling. A flush head sits level with the ceiling with its working parts showing. A concealed head is hidden completely behind a cover plate, held on by a solder that melts below the head's own rating.
When the plate drops, the head's deflector drops below the ceiling on its guide pins and the head then opens at its own rating, usually 68°C. Because the plate must fall first, each concealed head is matched to its own cover plate, and a plate from another model, or one painted over, may not drop in time.
Cover plates come in white, chrome and other finishes, and can be ordered in the ceiling colour from the maker. They must never be painted on site.

How to choose
Choose the head and cover plate together, from the same maker and model, and order the plate finish to match the ceiling. Never paint a cover plate or a head.
Check the ceiling void: the head needs room above the ceiling and a drop or flexible hose to place it exactly, and the cover plate must sit flat against the tile.
Then match the K factor, response and coverage to the design as for any pendent head. Extended coverage concealed heads can cut the number of heads in large rooms and corridors.
