How to choose
Start with the fluid and duty. For water and oil lines up to 100 mm, Sant Valves and Zoloto offer bronze and gun metal globe valves to IS 778, with ISI marked Class 1 models from both makers and ISI marked Class 2 models from Sant Valves and Kartar Valves offers gunmetal globe valves to IS 778 (K604, K606) and the K604-E wheel valve. For steam, the Sant Valves SBM-14 and SBM-15 union bonnet valves, rated PN 25 and conforming to IS 778 Class 2, are listed for water, oil and steam, and the Kartar Valves cast iron K-101 globe steam stop valve (15 mm to 200 mm) and K-102 junction steam stop valve (15 mm to 100 mm) are rated for steam up to 13 kg/cm2 at up to 220°C.
Next match the pressure class, choosing one that covers the highest pressure and temperature in that line. The IS 778 class sets the rating of the bronze and gun metal valves: Sant Valves body tests its Class 1 valves at 1.5 MPa and its Class 2 valves at 2.4 MPa. Then choose the pattern and ends. Straight globe valves keep the line straight, while angle valves such as the Sant Valves IS-22, the Zoloto 1001A and the Kartar Valves K-102 turn the line through a right angle. Screwed valves have threads to BS 21, IS 554 or ISO 7, the forged steel valves come with NPT or socket welded ends, and flanged valves have flanges to BS 10 Table D or F, IS 778, ASME B 16.5 Class 600 or DIN-2533 PN-16.
