How to choose
Gate and sluice valves isolate a line by lifting a wedge clear of the flow. They are meant to be fully open or fully shut, not to regulate flow. In India, the larger flanged cast iron gate valves used on water and fire mains are usually called sluice valves. Zoloto's sluice valves are handwheel operated, with flanges to IS 1538, from 50 mm to 600 mm.
Choose the stem type. On a non rising stem (inside screw) valve the stem turns without moving up, which suits pits and tight spaces. On a rising stem valve the stem climbs as the valve opens, so its position can be seen. The 1079C and 1079D are outside screw and yoke (OS&Y) sluice valves with a rising spindle, and the bronze 1035B and 1035C are rising stem gate valves.
Check the standard and pressure class. IS 778 is the Indian Standard for copper alloy gate, globe and check valves, and Class 2 is its higher pressure class. The bronze 1035 and 1036 are made to IS 778 Class 1 and the 1035A to Class 2, all ISI marked. The 1079A (PN 1.0), 1079B (PN 1.6) and ductile iron 1096 (PN 1.6) sluice valves are made to IS 14846 and ISI marked, though the maker notes that IS certification for the 1079A in 350 mm to 600 mm is still in process. The rising stem 1079C and 1079D use IS 14846 as a design reference.
The bronze 1006, 1007 and 1035C list a 225°C maximum working temperature, and the 1007 follows BS EN 12288 (BS 5154); the other valves here list 45°C. None is listed as UL or FM approved. FPS supplies and installs Zoloto gate and sluice valves in Bhopal and across Madhya Pradesh.

What is the difference between a gate valve and a sluice valve?
Both isolate a line by lifting a wedge out of the flow. Sluice valve is the common Indian name for the larger flanged cast iron or ductile iron gate valves used on water mains, such as Zoloto's 1079 series and 1096.
Which Zoloto gate and sluice valves are ISI marked?
The bronze 1035, 1035A and 1036 made to IS 778, and the 1079A, 1079B and ductile iron 1096 sluice valves made to IS 14846, are listed with the ISI mark. For the 1079A, IS certification of the 350 mm to 600 mm sizes is still in process.
Should I choose a rising stem or a non rising stem valve?
Choose rising stem, or OS&Y, where you want to see at a glance whether the valve is open, and non rising stem where headroom is limited or the valve sits in a pit. Zoloto offers both in bronze gate valves and in cast iron sluice valves.
What do PN 1.0 and PN 1.6 mean on sluice valves?
They are the nominal pressure classes of the valve under IS 14846: PN 1.0 is the 1.0 MPa class and PN 1.6 the higher 1.6 MPa class. Choose the class that covers the working pressure of your line.
Can Zoloto sluice valves be used on fire hydrant lines?
Zoloto lists its cast iron and ductile iron sluice valves for fire fighting as well as plumbing. If the consultant or insurer asks for UL Listed or FM Approved valves, check before ordering, as these models are not listed that way.
