Horizontal or vertical sidewall?
A horizontal sidewall head comes out of the wall on a short horizontal pipe, with its deflector facing into the room. A vertical sidewall head sits on a pipe running up or down the wall and has a deflector shaped to throw the water sideways. Both spray a half circle of water across the room and onto the wall opposite.
Sidewall heads save running pipe across the ceiling, which helps in hotel rooms where the pipe can run above the corridor ceiling and enter each room through the wall, and in refits of finished buildings.
